Attractions to see in Halong Bay (part 1)

Your travel to Vietnam will not be complete until you visit Halong Bay, one of the world’s seven natural wonders. Check out these 5 best attractions to see in Halong Bay to see why it’s worth visiting this bay!

1. Sung Sot Cave

When visiting Halong Bay, Sung Sot Cave should be on your list of must-see attractions. It is the oldest and most famous cave in the world, as well as the most visited. The cave is about 1000 square meters in size and contains thousands of stalagmites and stalactites. Sung Sot, like most karst caves, has high scientific merit. The cave is located on Bo Hon Island, in the heart of Halong Bay, and is surrounded by a sheet of endless “light beams” hung with glittering stalactites, “velvet carpet,” and stone statues. Sung Sot Cave is one of the most famous places to visit in Halong Bay for such reasons.

2. Cat Ba Island

Cat Ba Island is the biggest of the Halong Bay islands. It has a plethora of hotels, pubs, and bars. It has clean beaches (named Cat Co 1 and Cat Co 2) off the coast of Hai Phong City that is suitable for sunbathing and swimming throughout the summer. If you don’t like crowds, go to Monkey Island, where the beaches are cooler and smoother, where you can rent a kayak or charter a speedboat.

3. Dau Be Island and National Park

Dau Be Island is renowned for Ba Ham Lake which is a structure composed of 3 major ocean basins. The roof of the cave is covered with stalactites, which make unusual forms and proportions. Many orchids, banyans, and palm trees grow on the island. Throughout the year, there are also several gold monkeys, bats, flying squirrels, butterflies, and flowers.

4. Me Cung Cave

Attractions in Halong Bay

Me Cung Cave (or Maze Cave), as fanciful and enticing as its name suggests, is one of Halong Bay’s many popular attractions. The gateway resembles a house roof that carves deep into the island’s slopes. Within, you might have the impression that you are entering the great palace of a Persian King.

The sparkling stalactites make the cave glow like a paradise with the sun shining from the outside. Furthermore, the blue waters of Me Cung Lake within the cave contribute to the scenic beauty of nature.

5. Monkey Island

Monkey Island is such a well-known and popular tourist destination that most tours invite tourists to visit it. It is an excellent location for bathing in clear water. The presence of several monkeys is, of course, the highlight of Monkey Island. Visitors would be able to easily snap pictures or frisk with monkeys on boughs here. Aside from the monkeys, the island’s bungalows can provide visitors with memorable memories.
