The season of yellow and red leaves in Japan comes late
The time when autumn leaves in Japan turn yellow and red this year is forecast to be about 10 days later than the annual average due to warmer weather.
According to weather forecasting company Japan Meteorological Corp (JMC), this year autumn leaves will turn yellow and red in Nagano and Sapporo cities on November 8 and November 23, 11 days later than the daily average. year.
Tree leaves in Tokyo turn their brightest yellow on November 26 and crimson on December 1. The time when the leaves in Osaka change color is also during the above time period.
According to JMC, cold weather will cause leaves to change color faster. If the weather is warm, the change will slow down. “When the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, green leaves begin to turn yellow and red,” said Hiroki Ito, a representative of JMC. Fall temperatures are expected to be higher than last year due to an echo of summer temperatures. This year, Japan experienced the hottest summer in history.

Accordingly, the yellow leaf season will be on schedule or “a little later” in the North and East, according to JMC. Western regions expect yellow leaves to arrive on schedule. The red leaf season will be later than usual throughout the country.
Every year, Japan will announce a calendar of cherry blossoms in the spring and yellow and red leaves in the fall to help domestic and foreign tourists plan their visits. JMC provides forecasts of when the leaves turn yellow and red at 700 famous locations across Japan for autumn leaf viewing. The time to predict yellow leaves is based on the time of leaf color change of ginkgo trees and red leaves is based on the time of color change of maple trees.
JMC will announce the next two forecasts on the yellow and red leaf calendar at the beginning and end of October.
