Sunflowers are annual herbaceous plants belonging to the Asteraceae family. Their characteristic is that they always stretch towards the sun and bloom large flowers. There are sunflowers that can grow up to about 3 meters tall.
When do sunflowers start blooming in Japan?
Sunflowers, also known as Himawari, usually bloom from early July to early August in Hokuryu, Hokkaido Prefecture. This place is known as the largest homeland of this flower with about 1 million flowers.
The characteristic feature of sunflowers is that they always stretch towards the sun and bloom large flowers. The sunflower field in Kamagata (Mie Prefecture) is also a beautiful spot to see flowers in the summer.

You can see sunflowers everywhere across the country, but this flower usually thrives in places with lots of sunshine. While many other plants cannot tolerate direct sunlight, sunflowers absorb a lot of sunlight to grow tall and bloom large flowers.
