Taiwan becomes latest Asian destination to launch digital nomad visa

Why did Taiwan become the latest Asian destination to launch a digital nomad visa?
Taiwan has introduced a new visa allowing digital nomads to stay for up to six months starting Jan. 1 to boost its tourism growth in a similar move with other Asian economies.
To be eligible for the visa, applicants aged 30 or older must have earned an annual income of at least US$60,000 in the previous year, Taiwan News reported.
For applicants aged 20 to 29, the minimum annual income requirement is $24,000.
Eligible applicants need to work remotely while residing in Taiwan.
Taiwanese authorities aim to attract 400,000 digital nomads by 2032 through this new visa policy, Taipei Today reported.
Several Asian economies have already launched similar initiatives.
Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa, introduced in July last year, allows digital nomads to stay for up to 180 days and offers a five-year multiple-entry option.
South Korea’s Workation Visa permits a one-year stay, with an option to extend for another year while Japan has rolled out a visa enabling digital nomads to stay for up to six months.
