My Son Sanctuary
My Son Sanctuary is located in Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, about 70 km southwest of Da Nang city, 40km from Hoi An city. My Son is the Hindu mecca of the Kingdom of Champa. The My Son Sanctuary is located in a valley about 2km in diameter which is surrounded by hills and mountains. The mountain circuit is about 100m to 400m high, from the East Truong Son through My Son to the capital Tra Kieu.
The whole cluster of Cham relics is made of bricks. But in the 13th century there appeared a stone structure and that is the only stone temple of the Cham relic. Initially, the Cham people were influenced by culture, religion and architecture from India so the first architectural works here are a mixture of Cham Pa and Indian cultures. From the 9th to the 10th century, the Cham people had structures that reflect the Indonesian architecture.
During the development, visitors will see architectural works with different cultural features like Khmer architecture or Southeast Asian architecture. All these values have blended into outstanding global values. Since then, My Son Sanctuary becomes a world cultural heritage.
