Discovering wildlife in Thung Nham
Thung Nham Bird Garden Eco-tourism Area (also known as Bird Valley) is situated in the central area of Trang An Landscape Complex, about 5km south of Tam Coc – Bich Dong Tourist Area and 12km west of Ninh Binh City. It belongs to Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province.
Thung Nham is surrounded by unspoiled jungle greenery. A thin dew curtain looming in the pristine room of Thung Nham at dawn gives tourists the impression that they are in a fairyland. The steersman will lead tourists to fascinating places in Thung Nham by gently rowing on the calm water present.
The first destination is the Garden Bird Sanctuary, which is home to 46 bird species and about 50,000 people, including common storks, herons, silver teals, and white-rumped shamas. Many of which are described in the Viet Nam Red Book as Mycteria leucocephala, Phalacrocorax fuscicollis, phoenicopterus, and so on. The music of birds in silence is like a boisterous and joyful natural symphony. Visitors staying in Thung Nham between 17h and 18h will have the chance to see flocks of birds going to their nests.
The boat continues to transport tourists to caves in limestone mountains such as But (Fairy), Tien Ca (Mermaid), Ba Co (Three Ladies), Thuy Cung (Water Palace), and others. to enjoy the variously shaped stalactites and listen to the stories about the cave’s base
Visitors will visit a thousand-year-old streblus tree that has flourished entirely on a big rock since leaving the ferry. In Viet Nam, its form and stance are considered unrivaled. Visitors should pay particular attention to the “flying” banyan tree in Goi Dai Temple. Scientists believe that the condition of this tree has improved every 300 years due to the continued growth of the auxiliary root system. Thung Nham also has a greenhouse with a variety of traditional tropical fruits such as guava, apple, star fruit, raspberry, custard… and a primeval forest with a diverse ecosystem that is home to 109 flora and 150 fauna species.
After exploring the natural beauty of Thung Nham, tourists can unwind in silt-houses and eat a variety of rustic dishes such as piglets, hill chickens, lake trout, goat meat, com chay (fried rice crust at the bottom of the pot), bamboo sprout… This location is also ideal for hiking, hunting, fishing, and weekend getaways…
