Tomb of Tu Duc
Tomb of Tu Duc was built in a narrow valley of Duong Xuan Thuong village (now Thuong Ba village, Thuy Xuan commune, Hue city). This is one of the most beautiful works of royal architecture in the Nguyen Dynasty. The mausoleum is located in the middle of a pine forest, 8km from Hue .
The overall architecture of this tomb is located in a circle of La Thanh about 12ha wide, including nearly 50 large and small architectural works spread out in clusters on high ground, about 10m lower than each other.
The panorama of Tomb of Tu Duc is like a large park. Passing Vu Khiem gate to Luu Khiem lake area, there are Chong Khiem and Du Khiem on the lake. This is where the king used to watch flowers, write poems and read books.
Continue three steps of stone leading to Khiem Cung Gate, visitors can see Hoa Khiem Palace. This was originally the working place of the king but is now used to worship the king and queen. After Hoa Khiem temple to Luong Khiem palace, it was formerly the residence of the king and later became the place of worshiping the king’s mother- Tu Du. To the right of Luong Khiem Palace is On Khiem Street, where things are stored. To the left of Luong Khiem Palace, there is Minh Khiem theater where the king to watch and sing. This is considered as the oldest theater in Vietnam which is still preserved.
Right after two rows of majestic martial arts statues is Bi Dinh (beer house). The stele made of large bar stone engraved with the article Khiem Cung Ky of King Tu Duc is 4,935 words long. On the hill located across the Tieu Khiem Tri semi-circle lake is Buu Thanh which is built of brick. In the middle of it is a small house built of stone, where the king rested.
