Golden mustard flowers blanket the fields of Moc Chau
Moc Chau sits at around 1,000 meters, with a cool climate year-round, making it a northern Vietnam favorite. In late winter and early spring, the plateau attracts visitors as many flowers bloom simultaneously. Besides peach and plum blossoms, mustard flower season is also a popular early Tet photo experience. The photo shows a mustard flower garden at Loi Tuoi Farm in Van Son Ward. It is located about eight kilometers from the town center.
Mustard flowers become the main subject in travelers’ photographs
Quang Kien, a local tourism worker, said mustard was once grown for leaves, oil seeds, and dairy farming.vLater, vast golden mustard fields became tourist attractions. Many farm owners in Moc Chau now grow mustard and charge visitors. According to farm representatives, mustard is planted on hills covering over 10 hectares. Staggered planting ensures continuous blooming until Lunar New Year for visitors. Each flowering period lasts about two weeks before fading and entering the seed stage.
The garden owner said Japanese mustard varieties have been trial-grown for two years.vThey feature large petals, bright yellow color, and plants taller than knee height.vThanks to fertile soil, the flowers bloom evenly and beautifully.

The farm opens to visitors daily from 7 a.m. Entrance tickets cost 40,000 VND per person, with no time limit. In early January, Moc Chau temperatures range from 8 to 16°C, with dry, sunny weather. The pleasant weather makes travel convenient. Farm representatives say thousands of local visitors arrive each week.
“The open space and fresh air create a peaceful, relaxing feeling at year’s end,” said Nguyen Ha Phuong, 29, from Moc Chau. Visiting on January 17, Phuong advised contacting garden owners to check bloom conditions before arrival. She also suggested combining visits to nearby mustard fields.

Large numbers of tourists flock to this golden land.
In the fields, owners set up scenes like a nearly five-meter straw bear for young visitors’ check-ins. Visitors can also pick organic strawberries and tour a dairy farm.
Transportation and entrance fees for mustard flower gardens
About five kilometers away, visitors can explore white mustard fields in Thao Nguyen Ward. Entrance tickets cost 30,000 VND per person.
Moc Chau lies nearly 200 kilometers from central Hanoi, about four hours by car. Visitors can take buses to Son La from My Dinh or Yen Nghia stations. They get off at Moc Chau. From there, travelers can rent motorbikes or use local motorbike taxis to reach attractions.
